In mid-2021, Shangqiu Yueda Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. customized 12 sets of 20 tons/day waste tire pyrolysis refining equipment for a waste recycling enterprise in Tanzania. The units were successfully installed, commissioned and officially put into operation in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

All systems were inspected in strict accordance with international refining equipment standards and Tanzania’s National Solid Waste Management Strategy, ensuring stable performance, low energy consumption and full compliance with local emission regulations. Project Objectives of the Tanzania Tire-to-Fuel Oil Project

The client is a leading local waste recycling company in Dar es Salaam, mainly engaged in waste tire collection and preliminary processing.

With Tanzania’s rapid economic growth and rising vehicle ownership, the stock of waste tires has increased year by year, causing severe environmental pressure. Waste tires are difficult to biodegrade, prone to spontaneous combustion, and easy to breed germs, conflicting with the country’s sustainable development commitments and environmental requirements.

Meanwhile, Tanzania relies heavily on imported fuel oil, which features high import costs and unstable supply. There is a growing urgent demand for cost-effective alternative fuel in industrial and agricultural production.

The client found that traditional manual waste tire treatment is low-efficiency and highly polluting, while small-scale refining equipment cannot meet large-scale processing needs. Therefore, they chose Shangqiu Yueda for a customized, efficient and eco-friendly waste tire pyrolysis solution.

Considering local conditions in Tanzania — abundant waste tire resources, hot climate, relatively low labor costs and strict environmental emission standards — Shangqiu Yueda provided 12 sets of customized intermittent waste tire refining equipment with a capacity of 20 tons per set per day.The solution optimizes the traditional pyrolysis system in three key aspects to perfectly adapt to local market demands:

1. Feeding and Pretreatment

Equipped with professional waste tire shredding equipment to efficiently crush waste tires into 5–10 cm pieces, which are then conveyed into the reactor via a semi-automatic conveying system. It reduces labor intensity, fits local labor cost characteristics, and eliminates dust pollution during feeding.

2. Pyrolysis Process

Adopts an advanced high-aluminum modular heating structure and intelligent temperature control system, adapting to Tanzania’s high-temperature climate with fast heating and cooling rates, greatly improving production efficiency.

The pyrolysis temperature is precisely controlled at 380–450℃, with a stable oil yield of 35%–40%. Local low-cost coal or wood can be used as heating fuel to effectively reduce operational costs, fully complying with Tanzania’s environmental emission standards.

3. Slag Discharge and Waste Disposal

Adopts an optimized large-door slag discharge structure with simple operation, easy for local workers to master quickly.

By-products such as carbon black and steel wire generated during pyrolysis are collected separately for recycling: steel wire can be remelted and reused; carbon black can be sold to local rubber manufacturers or used as fuel to realize resource circulation.

Tail gas is purified through multi-stage dust removal and desulfurization devices before standard discharge without secondary pollution, gaining full approval from local environmental authorities.
